According to the official history record, Ma Chao died in the year of 222, when he was 47 years old. His whole family was killed by Cao Cao, except him and his younger brother Ma Dai. It is said that he was killed byrebellious troops in the novel, in factly he died of depression and illness in history record. Huang zhong died of illness in 220.
