About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I am a a Pakistani National and currently residing in UK on a valid work permit. My work permit here ends in 2013. I wish to travel to china in june this year. Do I have to pay any fee for the visa? I understand through the website that pakistani nationals are exempt from fee.
Also, will I have to apply for seperate visas for hong kong and macao as well? How much will that cost me?
If I am applying a visa from UK, how long will it take to obtain a visa clearence.
I have friends in china. can they send me some letter to help my application?
your help in this regard will be much appreciated.

Yes, you don't need to pay for visa fee, however, you need to pay for the service fee of Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC)and express service fee if you use it. For example, you submit application to CVASC in London and use the regular service, you need to pay 36 pounds to CVASC. If you use express service, you need to pay 48 pounds to CVASC and 15 pounds to the embassy. It takes 4 working days for visa processing.

If you apply for Hong Kong visa and Macau visa, the fee is 5 pounds for Hong Kong visa and 20 Pounds for Macau Visa.
