About:China Customs Declaration

Hello, i am buying some small items from a manufacturer in china and they have asked me the value i want to declare, they have said that most of their english customers declare lower amounts. can anyone help me as i dont understand what they mean, total value of what i am buying is £300. thankyou

If you declare lower, you pay less on the tax. If lower too much, the custom will throw doubt on it.
