About:Chengde Transportation

Dear Mr. D:
In late April/early May I will be visiting Beijing and Anguo for a tour about Chinese herbs. Then I am planning to stay in Beijing until early May. I would also like to visit Chengde. I liked your recommendation that you actually could spend several days there, hiking and exploring the temples at a relaxed pace. My question is this: how will May Day affect travel and tourism for Beijing and/or Chengde? I am trying to figure out whether trains will be running, how long the holiday really lasts, whether it's best to see Beijing celebrate it, or whether it's best to be in Chengde. I appreciate any insights you may offer. Many thanks, Pamela

As I know, the trains will be in operation all the same but you have to purchase the ticket in advance. Both of Beijing and Chengde will be crowded with travelers on May Day, no great difference. You know, it will be the gold travel season.
