Generally, the international flights to Shanghai are landing at Pudong airport, so does the flight from Mumbai. And most trains to Beijing are departing at Shanghai Train Station or Hongqiao Station. You could choose your preferred train schedule by searching online first. From Pudong airport, you could take the airport shuttle line 5 to Shanghai Station or subway line 2 to Hongqiao Station. Besides, the train to the Great Wall leaves at Beijing North Station. If you reach Beijing south station from Shanghai, you can take the subway line 4 to the north station directly and then to the Great Wall. Usually, there is no discount for seniors on trains in China. And Shanghai is closer to Hong Kong compared with Beijing. It takes around 18hrs from Shanghai station while more than 23hrs from Beijing West Station to Kong Hong.
