if am going to buy a few souveneers and buy about 6 dinners how much money should i take is it easy to exchange money there How much is a moderaetly priced meal in the bigger cities

For souvenirs, it ranges from 10 RMB to 2-3 thousand RMB or more. It is the same as a dinner which costs from 100 RMB to thousands of. It all depends on you in fact. Even in the big cities, there are budget markets and small stands.
