About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

We live 400km from Perth and am unable to personally get to the Perth Chinese Consulate and it now states they do not take mailed applications.
Can I use the Canberra embassy?
Having never been there am I able to get a 6m validity 30 day visa or will I be limited to a 3 month visa? Would prefer the 1yr/30 day but got knocked back in October for that one and told to reapply in February.
We leave Australia in mid Feb but arrive in China mid August.

Both are Australian citizens, normal jobs, no criminal record

If you live in Western Australia, you have to apply for China visa through China consulate in Perth. China embassy in Canberra will deny your application if you don't live in its consular districts. For first time applicants China, the consulate will issue 3 months validity single entry visa with 30 days stay duration.

It is not good to apply for China visa so early, it expires when you arrive China in mid August, please apply for China visa one or two months before your arrival in China.
