It's around 8 to 9 hrs. It's a connecting flight going to Vancouver.

I see. Does this apply to other airports too? I'm really looking for cheaper flights but will require stop over (no change in airport). Does this mean i don't need to get a transit visa as long as i have my ticket with me that it's just a stop over?

How long will you stay in Shanghai Pu Dong airport? Visa is not required if you hold a through ticket and have booked seat on international airliners flying directly through China, and will stay in a transit city for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport.

You don't need a visa if you won't leave the airport for 8-9 hours stopover.
