The Chinese embassy in Japan will be closed during Chinese New Year, but the specified date is not released by the embassy. Maybe it is always closed from Feb 2 to Feb 8. I'm afraid that you can't apply for Chinese Work Visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/work.htm) in Japan because you are not a Japan resident, non-Japnese applicants should provide Alien Rgistration Card valid for at least 6 months.

Thanks for your reply! Actually I called up the Embassy and they said they are closed from Feb 2-6. I also spoke to a Visa agent & they said they can apply for the work visa as long as the documents I provide (invitation letter etc) are addressed to the Japan Embassy. So hopefully it should be ok.?? Thanks!
