Hi, travel agencies need you to purchase airline tickets through them to apply for your visa?

Travel agenies won't force you to purchase air tickets through them if you have booked them. In fact, if you just apply for China visa through them, the service fee will be higher. If you book flight tickets and entruse them to apply for China visa for you, the service fee for flight tickets booking and China visa will be lower in total.
