About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I am flying to Sapporo on China eastern via Shanghai. It includes a 1 night stopover at a Hotel. A statement has been made that no visa is required if I don't leave the airport. I have a voucher for Jin Li Hua Hotel, 5007, ChuanSha Road, Shanghai.

Will I need a visa to go to the hotel for the night?

You don't need a China Transit Visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/transit.htm) to go to the Hotel for the night because Australia passport holder can go out of the airport for less than 48 hours transit in Shanghai without a visa.
