About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I am an American with 2 years left on my Japanese working visa. I just want to visit a friend in Shanghai for about a week.

1) Would I need to go directly to the embassy and apply and pick up my passport? Or am I able to send it in?

2) If it's in American dollars, how can I pay the fee?

3) If I want a multiple entry visa, how long are they good for and how much do they cost?

1) You can go to the embassy directly to apply for Tourist Visa to China(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/tourist.htm) and pick up your passport. If you cannot come in person, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to drop off your application and pick up your passport at the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate -General. Application by post is not accepted.

2) you can change US dollars into Japanese Yuan to pay for visa

3) you can try to apply for 1 year multiple entry tourist visa, it costs 15000 Japanese Yuan
