My wife & I will be visiting Beijing in late April-early May next year. What is the best time of day to visit the Forbidden City, please?

How much time do you want to spend there in the forbidden City? I went there nearly at noon and get out just when it is closed at 5pm. I pay extra ticket for the clock museum and treasure house, so taking more time inside. So, you can get around the Tiananmen Square in early morning and have something to eat. Then enter the Forbidden City. I found it is useful to rent a machine guide.
