About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

My wife and I, both Canadian citizens, are leaving from Japan on a cruise that stops at four Chinese cities including Hong Kong during April 2011. We are leaving Canada in early February and need to obtain our Visas before leaving. Two questions: (1) What is the earliest we can apply? And (2) do we apply for a regular single entry visa or a multi entry visa?
Thanks
Eric W. Todd

China visa is valid for 3 months in general. As your plan, you will travel to China in April, April 1, for example, then you can apply for a China visa any time after Jan 1 (actual visa issue date). for visa entries, you need to apply for a multi one if you will enter China three times. BTW, you are not required visa to enter Hong Kong.
