My family and I will be on Princess cruise ship on Dec 22, 2010 in Asia.  Our destinations in China are Xiamen, at sea, and then Shanghai in China.  I would like to know if we require a visa or is it available on arrival.  Do we require a visa if we choose not to disembark from the ship?We hold a Canadian passport.  What will be the cost, time and where can we obtain the visa?  We are currently in an island of Koh Samui in Thailand.Thank you.

Ms.Shirley, you are required to apply for a visa to China in advance through Chinese embassy in Canada. If you are temporary visitors in Thailand, you can not apply for China visa there. So, you can try to send back visa applications to Canada if time enough, let your family to handle it for you.

Mrs. Mia:  Thank you for your reply.  We currently hold an O Visa in Thailand which is valid for one year.  I have tried calling China Embassy in Thailand but I never reach a live person.  I emailed as well but my emailed was returned 4 times.  Returning to Canada to obtain a visa and fly back to Asia does not warrant a cruise tour.  Any assistance with the China embassy in Bangkok, Thailand will be appreciated.

Ms.Shirley, you can apply for Chinese Tourist Visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/tourist.htm) in Thailand because you hold an O visa in Thailand which is valid for one year. If you won't disembark from the ship, a visa is not required. If you want to disembark and visit Xiamen and Shanghai, it is also possible for you to get a landing permit at port in Xiamen and Shanghai. But it is advisable to get a visa in advance to ensure your disembarkation.
