what are the rules for dating/courtship prior to becoming engaged in china?

No dating, usually. In ancient time, there were all arranged marriage. Husband and wife will see each other at the wedding day for the first time. If the man like a women, he would ask for marrige to her family, bring gifts and asked per permission of her parents.1

In modern China, there are no rules regarding dating/courtship or getting engaged.It is up to the couple,in the same way as it is in Western countries and many others.0
