china never had a religion. only the schools of confunanism and daoism among others. the closest ancient china ever got to a religion was 'the mandate of heaven' which gave the king his exclusive power from the heavens. as for a specific answer to your question, china never had a religion. not until india established buddhism which later on spread throughout china.

The religion of the Han dynasty was a mixture of Confucianism and Legalism. Emperor Wu declared Confucianism the religion of the empire when he became emperor. Although they did teach Confucianism they leave in a bit of legalism from the previous dynasty (Qin). This mixture it often called Taoism. The people who said Buddhism are only half right it was introduced but not in the Han dynasty!!!
