Around 7th Century BC, Chu State of the Spring and Autumn Period began to built Great Wall, which is called Square City at that time, fortress connected by walls. They were built mainly to protect themselves from invading by the other states. Qin later linked all those wall. The real Great Wall came into being in order to resist intrusion of tribes in North China.
