Hello, My wife is a Chinese national and I am here on a z visa that was changed to a residence permit.I am teaching at a middle school. Can I change my permit to be sponsored by my family here and establish my own business here?I want to stay without working for the school and pursue a business.

You can stay in China before the resident permit expires. And if you quit this job, as what this article states, you can apply for a new resident permit/family visit visa valid for one year. This visa or resident permit can be extended at your wife's local PSB.
