You'd better book a 2-way flight tickets, as I know, some airlines refuse passengers to board if they don't have return flight ticket. I also know that the flight tickets are generally not required for China tourist visa application. After you get the China tourist visa and one-way flight ticket, but you are refused to board, you will lose much money, you can call the airline to make sure whether you can board the flight with one-way flight ticket.
