About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I am a UK citizen travelling on a British Passport. I intend to fly to Shanghai on Virgin Atlantic. I will then be in transit at PVG airport for 5 hours before getting on a Dragonair flight to Hong Kong. As I am changing airlines and will have to clear customs as my bags won't be checked all the way through to HKG do I need a transit visa?

You don't need a transit visa for 5 hours stopover in Shanghai Pudong Airport, Uk nationals are allowed to leave the airport without a visa for less than 48 hours transit.
