how to book train tickets while still in home country?

How to book train tickets while still in home country? Planning on visit to Hangzhou on Nov 1 for one night stay. Only arriving in Shanghai on Oct 29. Will be staying in a local chain hotel thus not sure if the reception is of handling such request upon my check in. Think it is best to book early. And I would like to know if the Hangzhou station listed in the train schedule is the same as Hangzhou East Railway as indicated on maps.Any help on the above is greatly appreciated.

If the hotel could not book the tickets, you can buy it directly at the train station or book it online. And Hangzhou Station is different from the East Railway Station. The two are not far from each other, and the east station is now closed due to reconstruction from Jan., 2010.
