Hi! I am taking my mom to Beijing on the 22-26th of Oct. Is a weekday best to go to the wall? Also, must I pay a tour group or can we see the wall on our own?

I recommend you go to Badaling section. The transportation to Badaling is very convient, no need to join a tour group. Also, the leaves around the wall have already turned red and it is beautiful. You can take bus no.919 at Deshengmen to Badaling.Or take a train(one at 0933 and the other at 1319） from Beijing North Railway station to Badaling.
