if i want to travel from luoyang to Longmen Grottoes then to Shaolin temple from there to Zhengzhou can it be done in 1 day?  any bus from Shaolin to zhengzhou and how long does it take?  i can only spend 1 night in either luoyang or zhengzhou from there i need to travel to Nanjing, which cities will be the best choice.

No, impossible to do that in one day and I think you may have to go to Dengfeng first from Shaolin Temple. Then take bus back to Zhengzhou. I suggest one day in Luoyang.
