I think you should go and return by train and stay in Shanghai Jinjiang Inn. The room rate is about 300RMB for standard room and this is chain hotel. There are more choice, such as Green Tree Inn, Super 8, Hanting Inn, Home Inn, etc. You can choose according to location. Take T train to Guangzhou and back from Shanghai. The price for hard sleeper is nearly 370RMB.
