Most of the locals especially in suburban do speak Fuzhou dialect, but could understand Chinese mandarin well. In downtown area, people could speak and understand mandarin very well, although you may hear some dialect as well.

Standard Chinese, or madarine is the most popular and widely used. Meanwhile, dialects are used by local dwellers.
