I am student in Japan. I have international scientific symposium in November, 2010.
I am wondering whether I need an invitation letter from Chinese Office to get visa to enter China or not? and What is the invitation letter used for in China?

You need to get an invitation letter from Chinese Office to apply for China business visa if you are invited. The invitation letter is used to apply for China visa and attend the symposium.
