Five days to cover the both is a little tight, so you can only visit the highlights there, like Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Great Wall, Summer palace in Beijing and Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Garden, Nanjing Road and the Bund in Shanghai. 1-2days in Shanghai is enough. You can spare more time in Beijing.
