About:Embassy & Consulates of Malaysia in China

I am Malaysian which to work in China, do the employer have right to hold my passport when I am working in China?

personally, I think it is illegal, but it is up to your understanding. In order to stop you to leave office voluntarily, the employer will keep your passport. He can use it to cancel your work visa or residence permit if you leave.
