About:China Train

Has anyone taken the K800 / K797 train Shantou to Wuchang?
We are in Jieyang and wanted to avoid the bus to Guangzhou then train to Wuhan.
Just wondering which is the lesser of two evils. That 5 hour bus ride Jieyang to Guangzhou is torture. We need to go round trip Jieyang - Wuhan - Jieyang.

Yes, K800/K797 is an air-conditioned common fast train on the Shantou-Wuchang route, which takes around 18hrs in total. It would be relatively comfortable if take one soft sleeper costing about CNY480. And if you transfer at Guangzhou, there are high speed trains available to Wuhan from Guangzhou, which takes just less than 4 hrs.

The solution to this travel challenge is to first stay away from the K800 train. We spent the day traveling by taxi Jieyang to Shantou to the Shantou train station, bought out tickets and waited in the zoo train station, herded onto the train, loaded our bags and abruptly unloaded our bags and detrained, and taxied our way back to Jieyang back to plan A. This was the most disgusting experience I have had in along time. The Train station was dirty and filled with dirty disgusting people, only to be outdone by the staff and the filth and disrepair of the K800 train. My wife and I bought 2 soft and filthy seats, and one soft filthy sleeper in the cattle car. The corrupt and rude train station staff charged our translator to get us on the train and charged her when she left the train platform, just for doing her job helping us gets on board. We are headed back to Guangzhou via bus to the Panyu station and onto the G train to Wuhan and then onto Shiyan. Thanks for the reply Mr Daran.
