can someone please explain to me how treacherous the construction was of the great wall and why?

Some of the walls were built on very steep mountain ridges. It was very difficult even to climb it, let along move with stones or bricks. See pic here(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/reviews.asp?rid=1688&op=detail&id=1234&pid=2578)1
