The first part of our trip will be Beijing and the north, we will go from Beijing to Datong, Wutaisham, Taiyuan, Pingyao, Luoyang and onto Xian (not necessarily in that order) My question is how easy will it be for non Chinese speakers to travel and buy tickets for trains and buses, and will I need to book hotels before or just turn up, we plan to go end of February/early march.Thank you

Not very easy to travel by yourself to but tickets for train and buses, but I think you can solve it. You may write dowm the place you are going to in case you will use them sometime. I suggest you book the hotel in advance.
