About:Dress Code in China

I will be visiting China for the first time on a tour to involve much walking/climbing. Is it appropriate to wear tennis shoes/hiking boots for comfort?

If there is not much mountain climing, tennis shoes is okay.

And is it in winter? Boots are better if the weather is cold.
