About:China Embassy in Thailand

I'm not sure if I'm following so I'm sorry if this is a broken-record of a question:
Im from the US, I have a 6 month multiple-entry F visa right now that I got back when I was a student. But now I'm not a student, nor working in a big company. Is an invitation letter from a friend's business in China going to be ok? If they say I'm doing volunteer work there would that help? and does it need to be a formal document or is it literally "dear-so-and-so, Kara is a good person please let her in to China again thanks?"
I'm going to Bangkok to renew my F visa - it will expire August 31st and I'll apply for a new one there since its cheaper and I'll already be there for vacation anyway - possible? Thanks!

Ms.Kara, first, I want to tell you that you can still use the present F visa to China before the expiration date August 31 even though you are not a student.

second, you can apply for L visa rather than F visa if you can't provide an invitation letter from a business partner in China or a letter of introduction from an USA company. The invitation letter from your friend's business is not sufficient.

third, it is not cheaper for China visa application in Thailand. The fee is 4560 Bhats for USA citizen.
