About:Beijing Great Wall

Hi. I will be taking a Beijing-bound train on the night of August 23 in Shanghai. I think I will arrive Beijing (don't know which railway station) around 12 noon on August 24. I will be staying at Beijing Forbidden City Hostel for the rest of my stay in Beijing.

How do I get to my hotel (Beijing Forbidden City Hostel) from the Train Station via subway/ bus or taxi? We are a group of four travelers so taxi bill could be split among the four of us, but it would be nice if there are easier and cheaper alternatives.

Thank you so much for whoever can help me.

D trains will you take from Shanghai to Beijing? The slowest train from shanghai to Beijing will arrive at 12:10, but I think you would choose this train which takes 21 hours. If you can tell your train no., that will be convenient. Anyway, you are going to alight at either Beijing Railway Station or Beijing South Railway Station. Beijing Railway Station is only about 3km from your hostel, so I suggest you just take a taxi (cost 10-15RMB). If you want to take subway, get to Chongwenmen first from Beijing Railway Station and then change to Line 5 to Dengshikou. Get out from Exit C and then walk through hutongs to the hostel, over 10 minutes's walking I think.
If you are arricing Beijing South Railway Station, you can take subway Line 4 to Xidan first and then change to Line to Tian'anmen East. Get out from Northeast Exit and walk forward. Turn left since you see 南河沿大街,you will find the hostel when you see Donghuamen Dajie 东华门大街 on your left.

Based on what I've researched, if I take the T-train in Shanghai, it would take approximately 14 hours to reach Beijing and Im ok with that. Aren't D-trains expensive? I'm planning to get a hard sleeper train for USD46. Also, how would i know if the train I got will stop at the Beijing Railway Station or the Beijing South Railway Station? I prefer the latter as it is only a short taxi ride from the hostel where I'm staying.

Thank you so much for the reply Mr. Jamie. i appreciate it.

You can find the train information online and T or K train will go to Beijing Railway Station. The D trains (Bullet trains) are more expensive, and will go to Shanghai South Railway Station. So, you can take T trains, T36, T104, T110 all fine.
