About:Entry Regulations of China

Hello I was planning on going to China on a 5 day holiday but they say my Passport is invalid as it has a small chunk missing the corner, so won't give me a Visa. My passport has not had a problem in at least 5 other countries.
I have a flight booked to enter Beijing from Korea and then as I can't get a visa I just want to get a connecting flight to the UK
Do I need a Visa for this and will I have problems getting my connection because of the Visa issue?
I fly out in 7 days so very worried about this!
Any help would be much appreciated.

So, if you stop over at Beijing Airport (for a connecting flight) without going out of the aiport restricted area less than 24 hours, you do not need a visa.
