About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

Hi
I am a UK citizen travelling to China for 6 months work in a school teaching English. The school are due to send me an Employment Permit / Foreign Expert document, whcih I will take along to the visa office in London and obtain a work visa. However I really want to remain in Chengdu after my 6 month contract is up, and hopefully travel around China, all for no more that another 6 months. Is there any way that as someone who is getting paid for half a year and then travelling for half a year I can obtain a year long visa? So far I've been told the only way to do this is to obtain a business visa, and this has to been by invitation of an organisation who will not be paying me.

I basically want to avoid having to pay a lot for switching from a work visa to a travel visa in 6 onths' time.

Many thanks

Iain

Mr.I Webb, it is hard for you to get a 1 year visa because your contract lasts for only 6 months, you can first get a work visa to China, then apply for a L visa at the Exit & Enter Department under the Chengdu Public Security Bureau, but the L visa generally only allows you to travel in Chian for 30 days.

yes, 6 months later, you can change your Z work visa to L visa for one month. Or you can go to Hongkong to apply for a new L visa, then extend it in China for twice. Therefore, you can stay another 3months in China.
