About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I will be applying for a double entry visa to visit for 2 weeks in august then visit again in september. The visit in september is longer than the 30days it states I am permitted to stay. Can I apply to extend my stay while I am there in September, even though my visa is still valid for a few more months?
