I'm a Philippines citizen. Can I get a visa on arrival for short visit to Shenzhen or Guangzhou? I'm currently in Hong Kong for business meeting, but without a visa to china.

Dear Harry,

I went to Shenzhen (Lowu) via train from Hong Kong only last May 2010. The train cost only around HK$35 one way. I only wanted to go shopping. I also heard that you can get a visa upon arrival from the Filipinos in HK.

Now here is the catch for us Filipinos.

You must have a Hong Kong Identity Card to be entitled to get a visa upon arrival at LOWU. Meaning to say that you must be legally employed in HK like the domestic helpers.

I was sent back by the Chinese Immigration authorities. If you have time you can apply for a visa at the Chinese consulate somewhere in Wanchai HK but this normally takes 2 days.

Another way of going to Shenzhen is by joining a group tour from HK which will arrange for a group visa. This is very easy. They can arrange this almost instantly.

Now here is the catch.

I was surprised that the cost of this tours are so expensive. I checked other tour operators in HK and their prices are the save.

Glad to be of help to you.
