There is no Z train between Beijing and Shanghai. You can take the T Train instead. There are 3 T trains at Beijing Railway Station and 1 at Beijing West Railway Station.

Yes, there is no Z train from Shanghai to Beijin gcurrently. However, at Shanghai Railway Station, there are 8 D-trains and 2-T trains departing to Beijing, respectively taking 10 hours and 13 hours. The night D-trains and the T-trains do have soft sleeper.
You could search out the train schedule in detail by the tool on the left of this page.
