I know it will be pretty cold in Shangrila and intend to spend more days in Shangrila than in Lijiang...is true that you can't do much in December in Shangrila and expect to stay indoor all days due to freezing weather ?

December is the coldest month for Shangri-La. The temperature is -10 to 12 degrees. It may snow. You have to wea down coat and sweater. No problem to visit Shangri-la in December if cold weather is not a problem for you. I still suggest October, or you can visit in summer. If in low season, you can find a hotel in the old town of Lijiang when you get there. Choose a favorite inn.
