I recommend Metropole Hotel, Macau, because it is very close to the historical zone of Macau, within walking distance to Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul' Chaurch, St.Dominic's Church, Fortaleza do Monte and Macau Museum, as well as Casino Lisboa. In Hong Kong, suggest you stay in Yau Ma Tei or Mongkok of Kowloon. It is close to Tsim Sha Tsui, walkable to Temple Street and Mongkok Computer and Lady's streets. Causeway Bay is also a good and cheaper choice to stay.
If you stay only one or two days, no need to buy a Octopus card. The card can not be used to buy ferry ticket, few discounts for tranfering a city bus following the previous bus. No discount on airport express. If you do not use it to take mtr or in convenient shops, or you do not want to take small money, you can consider to buy one.
