Mr.Ian, generally speaking, it is very strict for a Z visa application in a third country even though you hold a work permit in Thailand. If you apply for tourist visa or business visa, you can apply for it in Thailand because you have work permit in Thailand, it is adviable to apply for Z visa in your home country.

I understand that, but it really doesn't make any sense to me!! So that means i leave my Thai wife and 2 children with both British and Thai passports and fly back to the UK to get a visa. As for my wife and children they applying in Thailand!! That sounds a bit backwards if you ask me!!
What about getting a visa in Hong Kong?? Is that possible??

I've just done it successfully from Dalian, China -
I've been here on a tourist visa and have found work.
I didn't have to go back to New Zealand, which is great. The School sent me to Hong Kong with all the necessary papers and it was very smooth and easy.
They're a Private University and I don't know how much power they have in this country. They paid for everything though, so I am very pleased.
