About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

I have valid Canadian passport, Hongkong ID card and Hongkong SAR passport. I will be transitting in Beijing for less than 48 hours with ongoing air ticket to Hongkong. Do I need to apply for China visa? Your prompt reply much appreciated.

yes, you still need to apply for China visa, as I know,
if you hold Permit of Inland Entry and Exit for Hongkong and Macao Residents (also simplified called Home Return card)which can be applied by using your Hong Kong SAR Passport, you don't need a visa to China.
