I am going to Shanghai and would like to find a area where to buy a new pair of glasses. Beijing has a large area where optical stores are. Is there similar area in Shanghai.

Yes, Shanghai does have such glasses centers, which is located close to Shanghai Railway Station. One is called Shanghai International Glasses City, located at 1~4F of Shanghai Long-distance Bus Station, on the north square of Shanghai Railway Station. The other famous one is called San Ye Glasses Wholesale Market located at 4~5F of Huanlong Mansion, on the south square of Shanghai Railway Station.
