Ms.Tracey, as I know, there is no train from Hong Kong to Hanoi, you should first go to Guangzhou from Hong Kong, then go to Nanning, take a train from Nanning to Hanoi. You enter Mainland China for the second time, so you need a double-entry visa to Mainland China, Ireland nationals don't need a visa to Hong Kong for up to 90 days.
