About:China Tourist Visa

Hi,
I am planning on going to Bejing in August for a week, I have a HK Identity Card, Australian Passport and a 回乡证. Currently I live in Sydney, if I have a direct flight from Sydney to Beijing, do I need a visa or can I use my 回乡证. Also, if I go to Beijing via HK, does that mean I can definitely use my 回乡证. My question is if I have a direct flight from Sydney to Beijing, do I need to get a visa?

In principal, you need to get a China visa if you have a direct flight from Sydney to Beijing because the 回乡证 is used to return to Hong Kong first rather than Mainland China, however, many aliens use the 回乡证 to go to Mainland China directly, only a few people face problems. You definitely can use the 回乡证 to go to Mainland China if you go to Beijing via HK.
