I'm a little confused by your question.Are you going directly from Beijing to Erlian or have to go to JN first? And you are searching for trains to Inner Mongolia or Mongolia?

For the last question, there are cars for rent at the Beijing airport.

Thanks for the message. Ok to clarify - I would like to leave Beijing for Erlian (or, UB) on 14th June. I arrive into Beijing around 1030pm. The only way it seems I can do this is take a train from Beijing to JN to Erlian to UB? Suggestions on trains that would allow me to do the same?

You can take a train from Beijing Railway Station to Erlian. It departs from Beijing every morning at 07:47 and arrives at Erlian at 20:37. There are two trains available, the K3 and K23. After arriving at Erlian, you can find a train to Ulan Bator.

From Bejing direct flight to Ulaanbaatar (international, expensive about 300 USD round), and to Erlyan (domestic about 80 - 90 USD round). In addition there is trains directly to Ulaanbaatar (about 120 USD, 3 trains a week) from Beijing railway station. Buses, trains to Erlyan every day few times from Beijing, mainly from bus station near Beijing railway station. From Erlyan so many buses, taxi, train to Zamyn Uud, boder city of Mongolia. From Zamyn Uud 2 trains every day to Ulaanbaatar. Hope this information will help you.
