Can I stay at the departure area if my connecting flight is 24 hours in between?

I'm afraid that the airport will be close at late night. Why don't you stay at the airport hotel?

I'm afraid that you have to go through the immigration since there is no hourly lounge in the transfer area. But no visa is required if your transfer in 24 hours. The most convenient and recommended hotel is the 5-star Pullman Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Hotel, which is located in the walking-distance from the airport terminal.
