About:China Visa Exemption

In August, I will be flying SYD-PEK-LHR on Air China, with approximately 7-8 hour wait at PEK for my connecting flight. In my party will be citizens of Australia and UK.
We would like to leave the airport for a few hours to see the city. I am not sure whether we need to obtain transit visas in this situation. The guidance on the Chinese Consulate UK website is not clear on this matter.

yes, you need to apply for transit visa because you will leave the airport. Visa is not required for aliens who transit Beijing airport for less than 24 hours and don't leave the airport.
